LinkedIn strategy for small businesses to generate leads and grow in 2026

How to Make LinkedIn Work for You in 2026

If you’re wondering how to make LinkedIn work for your business in 2026, you’re not alone. Most people know they should be posting – they just don’t know where to start.

Find posting cringe? Dull? Pointless? All of the above?

It’s not just you – I promise. But you’re missing a trick.

Done right, LinkedIn is a golden opportunity to stand out from the crowd and generate a steady stream of leads that are primed and ready to convert into new customers and sales. There are currently over 1.15 billion LinkedIn accounts around the world. Yes – you heard that right. 1.15 BILLION LinkedIn users. And the good news for you is that only 1% of these users actually post and create content on a regular basis, with another 1% dipping in and out.

That 98% who can’t seem to overcome the cringe, or find the time to post are doing you a MASSIVE favour!

Simply making that decision to join the ranks of the 1% of regular posters is putting you ahead of the crowd. And when you add creating quality content that educates, adds value, or raises a giggle into the mix you’re on to a winner. It’s safe to say that LinkedIn is the single biggest opportunity you have in 2025 to raise your profile and generate inbound leads and sales.

So at this point, you’re sold. You’re in. LinkedIn for the win this year… but where to start?

Here’s five top tips to make LinkedIn your secret weapon:

1. If you want to make LinkedIn work for your business… Post with purpose

Sounds very serious that. But it doesn’t have to be. Posting with purpose just means thinking about what you want to get out of your LinkedIn journey. Struck with a sudden urge to post a selfie with your dog? Go for it. Who doesn’t love dogs?

But make sure that alongside the fluff you have some focus. Start thinking about:

  • Your goals (Inbound leads? Cool personal brand? Attracting investment?)
  • Your audience (Who are you writing your posts for? what do they care about? Except the dog selfie. Everyone cares about that!)
  • Your content pillars (3 – 5 key themes that your content will be focused on)

Get clear about what you want to achieve. And get posting.

2. If it’s worth saying once. It’s worth saying again… and again

A consistent message is the key to success. Decide what you want to say and when you want to say it. And stick to it! Show up regularly, even when it might feel like you’re speaking to a brick wall.

If a post doesn’t quite hit the mark the first time round – give it a tweak and post it again. And if a post smashes your engagement out of the park – post that again too! The reality is that to get your business brand burned into the minds of LinkedIn then repetition is the way forward.

It doesn’t mean being boring. High value content that talks to your audience and addresses their problems and pain points could look like:

  • Weekly insights into your industry and related problems
  • Your takes on trends and updates
  • Client stories, case studies and cool testimonials

Show them who you are. Show them what you can do for them. Then show them again.

3. Done might be better than perfect… but good writing still matters

You’ll hear a lot of advice about posting on LinkedIn. And let’s be honest. Some of it’s b*llocks.

  • Just say anything
  • Don’t think about it – just post
  • Just use ChatGPT – no one will care
  • Write about AI. Everyone’s really interested. (Spoiler – they’re definitely not)
  • Blah blah blah… insert rubbish advice here

You don’t have to be Shakespeare. But it helps if you look like you give a sh*t!

A bit of effort goes a long way. And a well written message with a decent structure isn’t out of your reach. Just make sure your posts:

  • Are clear. Cut the fluff
  • Have a hook that grabs attention in the first two lines
  • Add some value or quick wins
  • Sound like you – not a bot (i.e. avoid CrapGPT)

4. Embrace the cringe

Yeah I get it. It can all feel a bit embarrassing. Especially at the start of your LinkedIn journey. Like – who wants to hear what you’ve got to say. How much ‘life’ stuff should you share. After all, as sooooo many people like to tell you… It’s not Facebook.

But do you know who also felt that cringe – and posted anyway?

That founder on your feed. The one who gets constant engagement and a steady stream of leads.

I promise you. It’s not rocket science. It’s about showing up. Telling the world who you are. And telling your potential clients how f*cking awesome you are to work with.

Embrace that cringe. And post anyway. You’ll thank me later.

5. If you need it… get some help

At this point you’re probably nodding along. Thinking ‘Yes. I get it. LinkedIn is the way forward.’

But. You’re still not convinced you’ll find the right words to sell your business – or the time to write them.

And honestly – maybe spending hours a day glued to LinkedIn isn’t the best use of your time. Not if you can outsource it to an expert (like me), leaving you to do what you do best… actually run your business!

If you’re ready to win at LinkedIn and need a helping hand, this is what I do.

  • Get to know you and your business inside out
  • Take time to understand your customers and their pain points
  • Make sure your content has YOUR tone of voice. No CrapGPT here
  • Develop a bespoke content strategy designed to get results
